NEET UG 2026 Exam Cancelled: NTA Announces Re-Examination

NEET EXAM
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026. The agency has also confirmed that the examination will be conducted again at a later date.
According to the NTA, the new examination dates will be announced separately in the coming days.
Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?
The NTA stated that the decision was taken in the interest of students and to protect the integrity and trust of the national examination system.
The agency admitted that conducting the examination again would create difficulties for candidates and their families, but emphasized that maintaining fairness and transparency was the top priority.
“The decision has been taken keeping students’ interests in mind and to uphold the trust on which the national examination system stands,” the NTA stated.
Investigation Into Alleged Irregularities
Earlier, on 10 May 2026, the NTA released a statement confirming that Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group (SOG) had initiated action regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2026 examination.
The NTA revealed that it received information about suspected malpractices on the night of 7 May 2026, four days after the examination.
Following this, the information was immediately forwarded to central investigation agencies on the morning of 8 May 2026 for verification and necessary action.
The agency also stated that recent arrests reported in media were a result of swift action by law enforcement agencies.
CBI Investigation Ordered
The Government of India has now decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed inquiry into the allegations.
NTA has assured full cooperation in the investigation and promised to provide all required records and materials to the authorities.
Rahul Gandhi Questions Examination System
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the examination process and alleged paper leak incidents.
In a social media post, Rahul Gandhi claimed that NEET had become “an auction instead of an examination” and alleged that question papers were being sold on WhatsApp before the exam.
“More than 22 lakh students studied day and night for a year, and their future was openly sold overnight,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and several opposition leaders also raised concerns regarding the examination process and demanded strict action.
Students Await Fresh Exam Dates
Millions of students across India are now waiting for the announcement of fresh examination dates. The NTA is expected to release an official notification soon regarding the revised examination schedule.
